by Dr SR Phatak
This valuable Materia Medica was first published in India in 1977. This is the first British edition of this work, which is a completely re-set and corrected version of the original.
The book is laid out after the fashion of Kent's Repertory, but starts rather than ends with the general picture of each remedy. It then proceeds through descriptions of the remedy's action on different parts of the body.
In most cases, the clear physical description of each remedy is followed by a mental picture, providing useful pointers to the common mental states of these remedies. It encourages the user to look further into the lesser remedies.
The book traces most of its sources back to impeccable classical sources such as Allen's 'Encyclopaedia' and Hering's 'Guiding Symptoms'. Dr Phatak brings to each description a nice sense of the remedy, couched in modern and accessible language.
